Big School

Aussie Comedy Kingdom

'Chemistry teacher Mr Church is in his 40s, unsuccessful both in love and in engaging 30 teenage kids in his madcap experiments. Everything changes when enthusiastic French teacher Miss Postern joins the school, desperate to bring the romance and poetry of French culture to her pupils, despite having never actually been to France.'

After falling in love with the fantastic works of David Walliams through Little Britain and, in my opinion one of the all-time best BBC series’, Come Fly With Me, I was beyond excited to see that Channel Nine were screening his latest sitcom Big School. And of course, the legendary team at Roadshow Entertainment followed their lead by quickly pumping out this fantastic series on DVD so we can watch it over and over!

Deputy Head of Science, Mr Keith Church (David Walliams) has been teaching at Greybridge School for 15 years. As his dramatic science demonstrations (such as liquid nitrogen and 1000 ping pong balls!) are continually met with boredom by the students, Mr Church has become disillusioned with teaching and is intending to resign. That is until he meets the new French teacher, Miss Postern (Catherine Tate), who is a pioneer of new teaching methods – anyone for vocab tennis?!

However Mr Church has some competition from PE teacher and would-be lothario Mr Gunn (Philip Glenister) who is determined to ‘plough’ Miss Postern – preferably on Friday night when his Mum is at seniors’ Zumba. That is if headmistress Baron (Frances de la Tour) doesn’t fire them all first.

Big School
is all about a dysfunctional group of teachers, unrequited love and chess club featuring one of the best cast’s on television at the moment! This DVD contains all the hilarious six episodes from this first series, plus some special features including deleted scenes and episode commentaries.

Keep an eye out for some of my favourite scenes that feature the alcoholic drug-taking headmistress and scenes that feature the emotionally scarred Geography teacher, they are definite laughs for sure!

Big School is for anyone who has ever enjoyed previous works from Catherine Tate and David Walliams, and really anyone who likes a simple, entertaining sitcom away from the usual canned laughter crap of The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men. You’ll thank me once you’ve seen it!
